Daybreak at St. Mary's

Trapped in my classroom studio most days keeps me combing through old photos to paint from. This image was from a photo I took while out on a run last October in St. Mary's, GA. There is a great spot east of town where a paper mill used to be. Lots of good views.

Daybreak

Playing with some new colors. I have always made my own violet, but started inserting dioxazine purple into my palette.  Makes a great green when you add lemon yellow... The more I paint the more I've found that you rarely use a mixed color out of the tube like dioxazine for purple, but for other mixtures.

Bittersweet Arrival...

Glad to have been accepted to OPA Regional last year with the piece, Good Morning, Sun, but I am always a little disappointed when a piece does not sell. I have amassed a small collection of my show pieces that I will keep forever, but I cannot keep them all. This one needs a new home. Good Morning, Sun is custom framed, 24x30in in size and available for $2100, shipping included. Please pass this along to anyone who may be interested.

Hidden Path... Finder

Found this barn driving around west Tennessee near Bell Buckle... Though I don't like painting newer cars, the Nissan Patfinder hidden in the barn screamed to be painted.

The Beginning SOLD

This is a painting I did of my favorite alley taken by a friend of mine. It's nice to see it through someone else's eyes every now and again. This was at the start of our snowstorm last week.

Layers

Layers, oil on linen, 12x16, palette knife, on hold, architecture

Still working on trying to keep my knife work from looking like knife work... Keeping the darks thick and rubbing the paint in with the knife in addition to laying it on. I'm really liking where this is going.
