Finished up the large version. I wanted to do something different so I painted on linen instead of canvas which I loved, but I don't think I can afford it. The surface took the paint very well and with minimal effort. I also made small changes from the sketch like lightening the sky so the sign stood out more. That was about the only change.

Lily Pads, 231

Here is Cypress Dunes in Santa Rosa, FL we drive over the wetlands that have lily pads and cypress trees growing everywhere. It is beautiful. Wish I could see that every morning on my compute to and from work... but I will settle for rolling farmland and cows any day.

Red Ford, Green Field 221

Going a bit off the reservation with this one. Weird siZe for me... 11"x14", and on a linen panel. I must say that I love working on panels. I love the spring of the canvas, but there is something I find very appealing about the hardness of the wood on the linen panel. I normally work very small or very large, hitting something in the middle was fun and I hope to do a few more of these before the show. I really like the freedom of this piece, from an artist stand. It is not plein air, but i approached that was and did not spend any time on the drawing... unlike the larger pieces. I really like the look of the drawing aspects of this piece, I will have to apply that to a larger piece if i ever have the guts!

Thompson Farm Shed, 159

After leaving Mr. Chestnut's we moved closer in to Moreland and painted at the Thompson's farm for the afternoon. There were too many great structures and fields to chose from, so I picked to one where I could paint in the shade. At this paint, after dusting off a small painting by this point, I really had a grasp on the palette and what it was capable of. I could see it in everything I saw, which is necessary if you aren't going to bumble along through a painting. It makes it much easier to see, mix, and execute. I struggle with this a bit, as usual, but at the end, I was pleased with everything but the cloud. I will rework or repaint this one at some point.
