Playing on aluminum here. Kinda tricky, the effect is interesting, though none of the aluminum come through... it just have a brighter feel even thought I sanded and stained the aluminum so it would take oil better.

Carabelle Morning

The reference for this piece was taken early in the morning the day of the Great American Paint Out while hunting for subject matter. I decided to stay away from boats since the best plein air boat painters in the business were there. I decided to stick to my thing and i did an alley with a truck at the end. Hodges Soileau actually painted this boat during the paint out and he nailed it.

Inspirations from the Mother Road

My show opened this Sunday... and things went great! The whole experience was mind-numbing and exciting. By the end of the day, 24 pieces were sold and they continue to sell as the week continues. The show will hang until the end of the month.

SOLD Taos Trucking

My largest truck to date, I really enjoy getting big with these pieces. It makes them seem more real, like I can walk up to it, open the door and drive off.

Cemetery Point, Cedar Key

The last of the pieces done in Cedar Key. I am still about a month behind on my posts and we are leaving again for the big trip out west! I am hoping to get out from under the backlog soon!

There is no cemetery in this painting, it is actually behind me. I painted this from a board walk that goes around Cemetery Point and offers a great view of the marsh.

Cedar Key Marsh

A painter friend, Elsa Sibley, has great place in Cedar Key where we spent most of our time avoiding Tropical Storm Beryl. The place is full of characters and old Cracker Architecture, tons of marshes and great seafood. Sadly, I only painted one plain air piece and the rest were done from the refuge of our dwelling.

Hello, remember Me?

I'm the guy who used to post his painting here... regularly. Good news is that I have not stopped painting, only posting. By the end of the school year I was done with ANYTHING but painting and had even considered asking one of my graduates to intern for me as an assistant so I can just paint. I have found that keeping up with the blog, the website, Pintrest, and Facebook keep me away from where I really want and need to be, behind the easel. I have missed communication with all of you and I am ready to jump back in... baby steps, baby steps.

I have been very busy since my last post. Julie and I have combed just about every inch of Florida and have come back with great sketches and tons of reference photos. We spent most of our time trying to stay away from tropical storms, but we are back home and ready to post!
