Study, The Rolling Hills of Marfa

Study, The Rolling Hills of Marfa, 8x10, study, palette knife, oil on panel, $450, framed,  landscape
There is a ranch road just west of Marfa. You can take it straight to the border, or close to it. You actually have to go a few extra miles east to Presidio to make a legal crossing. The only problem is that it isn't paved and a 4x4 is a must. Luckily the new paint mobile has all of those bases covered. It is in the top 5 of drives I have ever taken. The scenery is unadulterated and WILD! During the 4 hour, 54 mile drive was saw only one other vehicle and that was pretty shocking. We did part of the drive again before we left.

Stand of Pines, Winter Morn

Stand of Pines, Winter Morn, 10"x12", oil on RayMar panel,  $450
Study for ArtBlink at the UAB Cancer Center this weekend in Birmingham. I will have 90 minutes to paint a larger piece from this study. I want to make sure I work out all the kinks so I don't have to think too much. I thought a small study with the perfect colors would be better than anything. At the end of the 90 minutes, all 20 artists must stop painting and the pieces are auction off. It is actually a silent auction and the bidding occurs while I work. Julie will be talking me up to the patrons and at the end, we will see what a piece of mine will pull in during a competitive bidding. Should be as close as Sotheby's as I will get in my lifetime!

Santa Rosa Morning, 252

Started going back through my masses of pictures from this summer looking desperately for some inspiration or something. This piece goes back to when I first started painting and I was using house paint and some pictures of trees I took in Costa Rica. I used a color combo I painted last week. It took a long time to do, so I am pretty sure it doesn't have the freeness I really want for it to have. Either way, It was an experiment and a strange siZe and was fun to do!

Lucky Strike, 206

In keeping with the retro advert theme, here is the next installment. I have always loved circular designed logos. They are perfection... not long and stretched out of boxy, just the perfection of the circle.

Lucky Strike is one of my all time favorites. It has stayed the same for as long as I can remember and in doing the bit of research that I did, has been the same for a long time. I really like the color scheme, too. The red, black and gold are great! The gold is a great addition, they kept it kinda tame... no bright blue or yellow, just a golden gray.

I admire any logo that can stand the test of time... and honestly, why mess with perfection!
