Washington Tow, Revisited 318

Washington Tow, revisited, 24"x30", oil on museum wrap, currently Not For sale
Wanted to do something special for the house, something with a story. I painted this truck before... it was the first time that I thought I may able to make this "calling" work for me. I will post it sometime so you can see where I was 3 years ago before I started Daily Painting.

From the time I was old enough to see out of a car window, I remember passing this worn out, rusty, wrecked tow truck just before you entered my Dad's hometown of Washington, GA. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. My grandparents also had a barn full of moss and dust covered old cars and tractors... the inspiration for what I paint.

As far as I know, it is still there. If anyone knows, let me know. If I had a place to put it, I would buy it in a heart beat.

Study in Compliments 316

Study in Compliments, 8"x10", oil on RayMar panel
This is the piece I have been so excited to post. I love the tonal quietness of this piece. A mild revelation that spurred some excitement... always a good thing.

Study in Yellow, Red and Blue 314

Study in Yellow, Red and Blue, 8"x10", oil on RayMar panel, $175
Still trying to work through some things. Feel like I am on the edge of something here that will reveal itself in a post to come soon. I am constantly surprised at how much I forget when you take time away from still life, or at my lack of working short term memory. In all honesty, I think it is the later. My wife is getting her doctorate in EdPsyc an ran me through some tests and we were both surprised at my lack of short term memory. This is made even more strange for my ability to name any actor in any movie made since 1980.

Along the Fence, Study 313

Along the Fence, Study, 8"x10", oil on RayMar panel, $150
I have been toying with the idea of a an open air painting club at the school, but have been reluctant to do so due to interest and time. Now that I live in town again, I have 2 extra hours a day in the studio and would love to spend some of those days with a new generation of painters in the field.

I had 2 students today who wanted to watch me paint a landscape and find out about the limited palette, brushes, my gear and the value planes. The most exciting thing to me was that one of them does not even take art and has been trying to get in since he came to us. Very exciting to see that. I picked this  piece because it was on the top of my reference picture folder in iPhoto .

Sky View 309

Sky View, 30"x40", oil on gallery wrap, NFS
I have had this piece on my mind for the last few months. I needed something very "me" and very cool for the OPA National Show, I have one more to do since you can enter 3. I got into the Regional show last year with Galveston Caddy, I hope this piece is unique enough to help me in the selection process for National!

Three Mugs or Tribute to Arshile Gorky 308

Don't know what happened here, besides all the bottles being stuck on the bottom, so I just rode it out.

Bottles on Red and Yellow 307

Bottles on Red and Yellow, 8"x10", oil on RayMar panel, $150
Very pleased with the turn out of this one. Usually a pretty good sign if I walk it to Julie for her input... and it better be good if she knows what is good for her!

Espresso and Skulls 305

My first daily painting in over 6 weeks... or so? Seems longer but could be less. It was painful.

Henry's International 304

In the famous words of Aerosmith... "I'm back in the saddle, again..." I am sure some of you ole timers will let me know that Will Rogers or the Lone Ranger said it first... but that's ok.

I finally became acclimated to my new surrounds and have knocked out a commission or 2 including this image done for a client who wanted his International painted. They saw my work in the Highlands at the Smokehouse. Henry drove this International in high school and still has it! Original paint and all. It is a beautiful car. He drove it to me when we were still and Gay and left it with me for 2 glorious weeks of picture taking.

It will hang in a prominent space on the stone fireplace of their cabin in the Highlands, NC.

Glad to be back!
