Neptune Cedar

Did this piece at the Plein Air Affair is St. Simon's late last month. Lot's of palette knife going on here. The knife is great, it covers a lot of territory and you really can only think about the "larger picture." I find it easy to destroy the big design with little brush strokes. This piece is framed and ready to go.

Fresh Picked

Fresh Picked, 8"x8", oil on panel, $150, © 2012 David Boyd, Jr.
Benn playing around with a limited palette again, gone back to cad yellow light, cad red light, alizarin crimson, ultramarine and black... black being my new favorite color. So, in keeping with the past, I did a "Daily Painting."

My Last Liebster

I gave 4 Liebster Awards last month, so I have 1 more left. The whole point of the award is to give it to a blogging artist who has under 200 followers who inspires you.

I do not give this last one halfheartedly. I was happy with my 4... then I met Kelly Medford at the St Simon's paint-out last month.

Kelly studied here in the states and then moved to Rome to paint en plain air. She has this great rig that includes a Julian half-box easel, her bike and an old umbrella. She has taken the plunge and lives a life I could only with to live if I had the courage. Her work is fantastic and she is just a great person to know!

Here is how it works, please notice that included links from my previous 4 recipients...

As part of the tradition it is passed along to 5 bloggers that have

motivated and inspired you.

To accept the award you must:

1. Link back to the person who gave it to you and thank them

2. Post the award to your blog

3. Give the award to3- 5 bloggers with fewer than 200 followersthat you appreciate and value.

4. Leave a comment on the blogs to let them know that they have been offered this award.

Here is my list of recipients. All of these artists are people I quietly follow and enjoy seeing their work day in and day out. Their work keeps me inspires me and reminds me how important it is to paint everyday.

Here is my list of under 200 bloggers who certainly deserve to be watched more than they are!

1. Mike Alonzo
2. Karen Werner
3. Claudia Hammer
4. Kathryn Townsend
5. Kelly Medford

Cannon's Point Canopy

Cannon's Point Canopy, 16x20 in, oil on panel, $600, © 2012 David Boyd, Jr.
Did this piece when I got back from the paint out in St. Simon's. The canopy at Cannon's Point was amazing. It was unadulterated. No one had been there to paint in over 30 years. we were so luck y to get in! I was in heaven, I have been drawn to Georgia's coastal canopy since my college days at SCAD. the subject of my first painting was the canopy of the tree outside of my house on Washington Ave.

This afternoon I head out for Apalachicola, FL, the site of the Great American Paint Out. I hope to get on their radar for the invite list next year.

Morning Shimmer

Morning Shimmer, 8x10in, oil on panel, framed, $600, © 2012 David Boyd, Jr.
A couple of weeks ago I was in St. Simons Island, GA for an invitational paint out.... my first. I was nervous, but confident in my skills. I had been painting out quite a bit and had become very comfortable with my palette. Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the beautiful shadow cast by this huge palm tree. The boring light was great, but it came and went... mostly went. I made sure I got a good cell phone image while the sun was out in case I didn't see it again! t knocked this little gem out before 10AM and felt good about my day.

This piece is framed and available at Glynn Arts.
